I loved this book! I have been fostering dogs for years and this book hit home on so many levels. I enjoyed reading about each dog, the family's reaction to each dog, and how these feelings evolved over time. Cara and her husband are to be commended for their commitment to dog rescue. She tells the truth - sometimes fostering is a joy, and sometimes its a little more challenging. She clearly follows the philosophy that the best way to cure a broken heart after saying goodbye is to immediately save another dog! Cara's energy in handling all her fosters is amazing - she gives the "job" her all. Her family, especially her husband, offers such support - he isn't the focus of this foster home but he clearly holds it together. Good job on this book - I hope a sequel comes out in a few years! 100 Dogs and Counting is a great book for anyone interested in saving unwanted and helping them find homes. In the beginning, Cara introduces her readers to many of the dogs she has foster over the past 7 years and how rewarding fostering has been for her. She says she became curious as to where all these dogs have come from which took her on several journeys south to visit shelters, rescues, veterinarians, and various places where puppy mill puppies are sold. She graphically shows the tragedy of the unwanted pet situation and discusses the astronomical euthanasia rate in many of the shelters. She says the problem can be solved, and things can improve. It's definitely a book that every pet owner should read.
